Amazing isn't it? I wrote that post a year ago and things haven't gotten any better. As mentioned, it may have gotten worse. Not only is NHL 36 endlessly repeated but now old jersey retirement ceremonies are recycled. Not exactly compelling. We also have Oil Change being aired constantly along with those playoff games from the past season.

My programming ideas would include airing edited episodes of 24/7. NFL Net airs old episodes of Hard Knocks so that would seem to be doable. I realize NFL Films is another animal but I'm sure something could be worked out with HBO.

Another thing I would focus on are hockey movies and documentaries. There are many out there including from CBC. Net Worth, and Hockey: A People's History might be old but they've never aired in the States. Net Worth is about 20 years old but it's a great movie that shows you how the NHLPA came about. Throw in the more recent Don Cherry life story movies and you have hours of films from an NHL partner that would be new to US hockey fans.

Summer programming is abysmal, same few shows rerun more times than "Brady Bunch". How many more times will "NHL 36 Mike Richards" be on?? Why can't they just replay random old games from past 50 yrs, where you don't know who wins? I'd watch that every time! Like defunct team (Nords, Seals, North Stars, etc...) games or random regular season games from 60's, 70's, etc... Just give me us some variety without knowing who wins, down memory lane. I remember Classic Sports Network (before ESPN bought it) used to have 'Classic NHL Tuesdays' w/ Original Six games from the 50's. Seems like a no-brainer, right?? Somehow or another now though, "Classic" games now all seem to be only from last couple years. Lame.

I'm fairly sure that the first time I saw Andi Petrillo on HNIC was also the first time I obtained anything near a chub while watching the Leafs lose on a Saturday night (please substitue 'Habs,' if that makes you feel better).

Big fan!! PJ obviously wants to bone her, but you can tell he knows that he doesn't have a chance!!

Picture a lanky six foot two tall thin, then eighteen year old, with an afrow playing hide and seek with a pudgey (me) fellow student host at the Ontario Science Center in Toronto. Amidst many a visitor at the time.
I taught Doug how to edit footage using uMatic 3/4inch machines at the OSC's television studio.
Doug introduced me to Leonord Nimoy as Doug was cutting voice-overs with him at the OSCs recording studio.
My fondest memory of Doug was him hiding behind the control panel of the TV studio and engaging the visitors not to give him away. He then jumped out from behind the panel and scared the poopoo out of me, much to the delight of the visitors.
Our boss found out and seperated us only for us to try something new the next day.
I shared two wonderful summers with Doug at the OSC.
His aspirations were always to succeed in sports broadcasting.
A great friend and true professional.

Farewell Dougy!

They are interested in revitalizing downtown Hartford. That's not the same thing as owning a hockey team. I can't imagine Citigroup or Aetna announcing to their shareholders that they are buying a professional hockey team. Nationwide's stake in the Blue Jackets is the closest thing to that but they are privately held and have a large real estate firm under their control, hence they built the arena and the surrounding mixed use development.

Aetna certainly has a stake in this but I don't see them putting up hundreds of millions of dollars to bring the NHL to Hartford. Revitalizing the city and renovating a decrepit arena isn't the same thing as owning a team. Their real estate firm can help renovate the place but are they gonna put up millions to buy an NHL team?
