Nelonen Pro to air Helsinki NHL Premiere Games in Finland

04 Oct

We’ve been tracking the potential blackout of NHL games in Europe for months. The good news is that someone in Finland will be airing games this week. The bad news is that it’s currently only for this weekend.

Finnish sports network Nelonen Pro will air the two Helsinki NHL Premiere Games. At this time, Nelonen is not scheduled to air any other NHL games but hopefully that will change. The Helsinki games are attractive since they feature Finnish sports heroes Teemu Selanne, Saku Koivu. The Anaheim Ducks will play one game against Jokerit to kick off NHL Premiere, with a game against the Buffalo Sabres two days later.

With Nelonen signing a deal of some kind, perhaps the dam has been broken and some more deals will be forthcoming. The folks at the NHL and ESPN America say they are still in negotiations and are hopeful that an announcement will come shortly.
